The analogue signal is digitized either by an internal sound card or by an external equivalent. Assuming that the internal card is used, the (preamplified) cartridge signal is fed to Line In of the computer. A suitable program instructs the card on channels and sample rate, then receives the digitized signal for editing and saving as WAV, AIFF or whatever.
