19th Century Literature

Presented below is a comprehensive list of the Library's articles and monographs dating from the 19th Century. Most of the articles are gleaned from journals, such as the British Journal of Photography, Photographic News and The Liverpool and Manchester Photographic Journal. For the most part, these articles mostly deal with practical issues and refinements on the albumen process, such as devices used to froth albumen. A valuable article in this regard is James Ross' 1857 article the The Albumen Process that gives an early account of the process prior to introduction of mass-produced, readymade albumen paper. Other articles are notable for their insightful handling of preservation-related issues. Of particular interest in this regard are articles by Grundy and Haddon, Mathew Carey Lea and John Spiller.
