RUSSIAN ICONS: SPIRITUAL AND MATERIAL ASPECTS

ABSTRACT—A sensitive, ethical, and informed approach is particularly welcome in the field of Russian icons because of diverse needs, opinions, and techniques within the disciplines of conservation and restoration. This paper reviews the spiritual and material aspects of Russian icons, presents an opinion based upon an ethnographic object conservation orientation, and calls for a future dialogue.
