1. A finishing tool, cut in brass, bearing figures or patterns in relief. Stamps range in design from a simple dot to the most intricate lacework design, and can be used by hand or in a blocking machine. In a more restricted sense, however, the simpler tools, or those meant to be used by hand; they are probably more correctly referred to as hand tools, fancy hand tools, or UNIT TOOLS . 2. An engraved design on a block, or the impression of a block or stamp on the covers of a book, as distinct from a decoration executed by a roll, or one cut into the leather.
