[padg] Re: Volunteer Needed for Promoting Preservation Chair

Hi Adrienne,

I'll throw my hat in the ring for co-chair, with high hopes but low expectations - I've volunteered before, but been rejected because I'm not a "preservation librarian" (I've worked primarily in Special Collections) and don't have institutional support (I'm currently working on contract jobs).  I'm not a current ALA member, but will join if I'm on a committee/in a group (there's just a financial limit on how many groups I can join).

On the other hand, I have a certificate from the Preservation Management Institute, have established private archives, have experience in non-paper preservation (10 years in photographic archives, plus more in object and textile preservation), and presented on collaborative disaster recovery and planning at the Midwest Archives Conference in 2008.  I've also been an adjunct instructor in an undergraduate archives program and the U Ky MLS program.  I founded the preservation group in WebJunction (which isn't bery active, since it's down a lot) I'm also partner in a consulting startup in preservation (among other things).

I'm also a big believer in virtual meetings (green, cheap, doesn't take time off work, is there a down side?)

If I sound like a prospect, let me know and I'll send a CV.  If not, I'm sure you'll find a terrific chair!

PADGers,

I am seeking a volunteer for the Promoting Preservation Interest Group chair.  This is a very new group with it's inaugural meeting in Chicago this weekend.  The IG has the possibility of being a dynamic place for the presentation of preservation concepts to the outside library world.  If you are interested in piloting this new group forward, or acting as a co-chair with me, please email me at aebell78@xxxxxxxxx.

Sincerely,
