Managing Preservation without a Preservation Librarian

Sponsored by PARS and Co-sponsored by PLA and LLAMA SASS

12 July 2009
3:30pm – 5:30pm

McCormick Place West Room W-181

Many libraries manage preservation programs and activities without a full-time preservation administrator. Managing preservation in small and mid-sized libraries of all types (public, academic, school, special, etc.) depends on the integration of preservation responsibilities in all units and the support of administration.

This program will:

•	Outline how to organize a preservation program without a full-time preservation administrator.

•	Demonstrate the importance of administrative support, policies, and planning in establishing and sustaining a preservation program.

•	Establish the roles and responsibilities of individuals and units in the library and how to sustain preservation activity over the long-term.

Speakers:

•	Roberta Pilette, Head, Preservation Department, Yale University

•	Michele Stricker, Consultant, Library Development Bureau, New Jersey State Library

•	Oliver Cutshaw, Librarian, The Chicago School, Southern California

Staff and librarians in small, mid-sized, and large institutions that do not have a professionally trained preservation librarian are invited and encouraged to participate in this program.
