Polishing relocates plastic from the adjacent higher areas to fill minor 
flaws. Larger scratches are best filled temporarily. Suitable materials 
are available commercially which closely approximate the index of 
refraction of the polycarbonate. If the original is to be retained, the 
fill fluid should be wiped off after copying.

Copying the repaired disc is, as Tom says, the next step and not 
optional. Copyright issues are generally secondary in such a case, but YMMV.
