Well, CDs are actually 16 bit 44.1 kHz -- and that's what you burn 
them at. BUT you can keep higher quality WAV (or AIFF) files on hard 
drives or DVDs. I would capture in higher resolution even if burning 
to CD in the end. Automatic scratch removal should do better with 
higher sample rates as it's easier to distinguish the noise from the program.

Your transfer turntable/cartridge/preamp should be the "A" system of 
this part of the chain. Don't skimp on the analog side.

Many people buy expensive A-D hardware and then don't use good analog 
playback hardware.

You really want to use FireWire, I think, if you're in MacLand, and 
the FW recommendations in my last email stand.
