Digital audio shines in the linear phase department.

In such an environment ther is no change to the actual wave shape, it
must be pointed out that there is no evidence that this is needed as
long as the delay is below 0.5 mS according to those who have done the
tests, and one can easily see this by input 5 kHz square wave and what
comes out is something that still looks like a square wave despite
missing everything above the fifth harmonic.

So despite the brickwall at 20 kHz the main wave shape is still intact.

So in my experience a hi hat still sounds like a hi hat.

BTW, there are very few speakers going above 20 kHz and even fewer that
does so cleanly and with very small levels of stored energy, ringing.
