By the way, during the 2002 Munich AES Convention I asked Ray M. Dolby subsequent to a special lecture of his, whether the various systems were available for software emulation, and he stated they are. So, perhaps questions in the right place might clear up what has until now given us a lot of mail.
I specifically asked the licensing supervisor of Dolby whether A/SR/E were available in any form of software and she indicated NO. I did not ask about B and C. The impression the licensing supervisor gave me was that Dolby was not interested in licensing software of this nature.
She indicated that hardware solutions were available for A/SR/E and that was what was offered.
We have further indicated to Dolby that the lack of software codecs for Dolby E (an all-digital solution, actually) is a big stumbling block for file-based broadcast systems.
