Do you know of a museum, library, or archive that is doing an outstanding job in caring for its collections? Heritage Preservation and the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) invite you to nominate that organization for the annual Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Preservation and Care of Collections. Self nominations are welcome for this award, which recognizes institutions that have demonstrated that their commitment to collections care is both outstanding and sustained. The award is not given to recognize one-time special projects, no matter how successful they might have been. Heritage Preservation and the AIC seek to recognize institutions of all sizes and types. The 2007 recipient of the award was the Cleveland Public Library. Previous recipients have included the Historical Society of Frederick County, Maryland, the LuEsther T. Mertz Library of The New York Botanical Garden, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, and the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. The postmark deadline for receipt of nominations is December 15, 2008. For information on the award, previous recipients, and nomination procedures, visit http://www.heritagepreservation.org/awards/aic.htm.
