Selling our disaster recovery idea -Reply

Institutional name support means tentative commitment to joining a mutual
assistance pact. Tentative because we are circulating the text of an
agreement (cribbed from IELDRN) which some institutions will want to
study and send to their legal departments before committing to that
extent, and because institutions are probaby not ready to talk about
financial contributions. The immediate purpose of this preliminary form
of support is for our LSCA grant proposal to State Library for containers
and supplies, i.e., "here is a roster or organizations that have expressed
strong interest in participating in a mutual assistance network." If, before
the grant application is due (maybe early May, we don't know yet)
insitutions are ready to sign a pact, all the better!

Oh, and by the way, thanks to Loren Pigniolo for his work in getting Sun
Microsystems interested in this project!

Richard and others;

What exactly are we looking for in seeking intitutional name support for
the mutual assistance grant? What does the supporting institution need
to do and what does it get in return?

I also would like to know how nice looking these cargo containers will
be.
I am going to be talking with our facilities person to try and convince them
to place one here at Sun Microsystems Menlo Park. Our disaster
coordinator already supports the idea of having cargo containers with
records recovery supplies. She was already planning to place cargo
containers at several of our building sites that contain facilities type
supplies (wrenches, etc.).
This would be a natural companion to that effort.

Any information and/or suggestions I could use in selling the idea of Sun
participating in both arms of this effort would be appreciated.

On the disaster mutual response network front, we are receiving a very
positive response. A number of institutions have said yes in terms of
lending their names to a planned grant proposal. Others are still
discusing it with their managements, but expect to come in.
