In order to save a few dollars and make use of an old A77, we had a new
drive shaft ground and replaced the record head with a 1/4 track head and a
new replay amp. The wow and flutter was slightly higher than it used to be,
but was still better than the standard specs of the Uher, which was the
machine most commonly used to record the low speed tapes in our collection.
We can now, however, switch between 1/4 and 1/2 track (providing we mute
between switching!) which is quite a valuable thing to be able to do with
poorely documented tapes.

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine
