Just to add to Richard's excellent suggestion, you can also use the
Zoom connected by its USB cable to go directly into the computer - or
to download from its internal SD card.

Yes, the Zoom does work as an audio interface--I've been meaning to try it, but its download is painful as it's a USB 1.1. You need USB 2.0 to do justice to the files and I got a Transcend card with a cute card reader and a 56-in-1 IO Gear reader as well.

I was so sad that my nice Sandisk 12-in-1 readers would not read HDHC cards--but everything else I have is CF (for now) which the Sandisks read up to 32 GB.

By the way, I'm making this recommendation for cassettes. I'm not sure I'd do high-quality reels with the zoom H2, but considering most cassettes I've heard the H2 is just fine.

Cheers,

Richard

That way you don't need a card
reader if you don't have one already. And, I found a 4G SDHC card
that came with a reader too, in a drug store of all places... in the
camera department.

However, the generic sound card on a generic computer may or may
not be adequate to the task. A much simpler solution is to obtain a
device like a Zoom H2 and let it create the files, and then use a
card reader to take the files off the SDHC card and put them into
your storage system. It even comes with the dual RCA-> mini cable.
A cassette deck with an output level control is highly recommended
as do not use the Zooms line input level control to go below 100,
all you do is move down the clipping point (what can you expect for
$250C, $160US).
