Shuttle winding can ameliorate print-through somewhat, and does result
in a tight pack, but that's not a problem generally, so long as the tape
is NOT then stored for any length of time with a tight pack. 

Storage should really be preceded by a library wind, resulting in a
gently wound pack, as Aaron says. Playback onto the storage reel is
fine.
