In the case of RCA and Victor, RCA was developing rotating-disc television,
and felt that Victor could provide expertise in designing the motors
required to rotate the discs. Although mechanical scanning rapidly became
obsolete (thank goodness), the marriage of the two companies resulted in a
treasure-trove of recordings during the years which followed.
