Re: [ARSCLIST] They're still making vinyl

eBay.

Everything is,for the most part on eBay.Sometimes I will buy something off a label,or artist's website, but I buy everything on eBay.New and used.I put together,a huge collection of classical records, mostly from about 1990-2001 ,from thrift stores. If you go to thrift stores in a mid-to-large size city today, you will find zero vinyl.

I am 46 years old.I have been buying records since the mid 60s.I recall going to old record stores in the 60s/70s,who never sent anything back.I have gone to stores where they had 78s that had been sitting in bins since they were new.I went into places like EJ Korvette's as a child.I remember 9 cent 45 cutout bins.I have gone to new/used record stores in the 80s and early 90s,that were the size of an average Walgreen's.So I have seen it all.

But I have also seen the market change dramatically.Beginning,as I said,in the early 90s,when new major label vinyl could only be bought through "Goldmine" ,and audiophile dealer catalogs, and indie stuff from label distribution catalogs, like Estrus or Get Hip.

But in the early 2000s,the market changed again,as everything moved to eBay, which is not much more than an online version of "Goldmine" on a larger scale.

I would seriously doubt there are many "record" stores out there, that are not exclusively hip hop. There was one such store, here that opened locally,in 1998, and they had a huge 25+ year collection, from a UK DJ,they used as filler to open the store with, but this was the exception that proved the rule. Most of these stores are all new hiphop, and the bins are mostly empty.

The record store, where we wasted so much of our lives is no more.

So, where do you go to buy new LPs? Do you have to order
them through the mail, or are there places you can go
to browse through them like in days of yore?
