Re: [ARSCLIST] Paper leader tape

Hi John

I agree with Ed. Of all the analog tapes I have dealt with that have paper
leader, ALL of them have contained high acid content and the splice and glue
have just fallen apart. Annoyingly, some clients have even spliced together
their paper tape! Obviously, the paper tape broke at some time earlier. I
would go with the plastic leader tape, even though some may say, this will
create static.

Cheers

Marie

IMHO, "reliable" and "paper leader tape" don't go in the same sentence.
I've had nothing but misery with old tapes that were spliced with
paper leader tape. Something in the paper reacts with the splicing tape
and the glue fails in about 20 years. I have not had this problem with
plastic leader tape.

In other words, yes, the product is obsolete.
