For what it's worth, I've had ONE (1) commercial CD fail since 1986, and that was due to a
manufacturing error, according to CBS/Sony who promptly replaced it. Another one, from Time-Warner,
doesn't mount in some drives and I've never been able to find a way to get it replaced and it's out
of print a long time now anyway. That's it. Collection now totals 5000+ commercially-manufactured
CD's. Oh and also several hundred commercial software CDROMs, never a problem with any of them. So I
conclude it's actually a very hearty medium.

I believe there was a post in this thread that referred to a
short(ish) life span for commercial pressed CD's of earlier
years. Is right? And, if so, what would cause this?
