Hello, John,
Dennis at NXT Generation is a DAT repairman and also does DAT
transfers from hard-to-play tapes. I would suggest contacting him.
I'd love you folks to start looking at the Formats and Resources
section of my blog at www.richardhess.com/notes as much of this basic
information is already there. I have an extensive hierarchy of media
types and for each type I suggest places where it might get
transferred. Of course, for those formats I handle, I list myself
first, but I also list others.
For DATs, the specific page is:
http://richardhess.com/notes/formats/magnetic-media/magnetic-tapes/digital-audio/
Dennis's contact info is listed there.
Notice it's a hierarchy:
magnetic media
magnetic tapes
digital audio
The top level categories are:
magnetic media (the bulk of the site)
magneto-optical
mechanical media
optical media
You can see all these categories in the sidebar on every page in the
formats section.
I also added a new page for azimuth adjustment for analog tapes which
you can find at www.richardhess.com/notes/
Below the Formats and Resources in the sidebar are a list of
CATEGORIES or, at the top of the sidebar, you can quickly search the
site for a keyword, although I'll admit that DAT isn't very good as
the search engine finds DATa as well. A Google Site Search might be
better for that one. Indeed, searching Google with the following:
site:richardhess.com/notes/ DAT
gets the page on the first hit.
Cheers,
Richard
