Re: [ARSCLIST] Scotch 200 box photograph -Del's Response

Glad you're finding this useful. Delos Eilers originally did this for 3M. I asked Herr Friedrich Engel, the former BASF Historian and author to do the BASF one and he did a wonderful job. I wish Del would add the sunset dates for each tape type, but it's a lot of work and the data is not conveniently done--you have to look for the absence of a tape on one year's price list and make sure it appeared the previous year.

Scott Dorsey who works at NASA/Langley put together a less detailed list for Ampex tapes

In order to complete the red-green-blue trio, I have scanned the red 111 box and the blue 200 box. Now, Angie, if we quickly flip through all three will we see the original in living colour like this?

The 3M boxes are at:

They are a bit bigger than Angie's file, but I wanted to make sure the screen pattern was preserved so you can de-screen to your heart's content.

Cheers,

Richard

  Hi, Angie,

Do you know what date that tape is from? I'm trying to determine an
end-date for the manufacture of 3M 311. It was the only PVC tape that
they ever manufactured. How is it holding up? It was introduced in 1960.

IG Farben and BASF made this stuff from 1944 (homogeneous) through
1972 (coated).
