Which is a good point...should one be interested in donating to a library,
assuming the library is willing to accept the gift, I have always
suggested that a deposit agreement be prepared. A donor should have the
opportunity to express their expectations and the collection is then free
to accept or reject those expectations. Get it in writing! And be sure to
specify levels of access, as permitted by law.

I have seen our library sell off and discard materials at the drop of a
hat...and even worse, let it sit on the shelf and rot away.

Some institutions will not accept gifts without either an endowment or a
written agreement or deed of gift.

To repeat...get it in writing.
