One of the challenges is the "code" on the Ampex/Quantegy tapes was a date-packed code and was not traceable back to the jumbo. The JKC lab report was using Ampex tape, wasn't it? So you thought you were buying the same batch in a case, eh? You could have reels from different jumbos in the case-easily.

3M may be better. I just asked about a batch number and haven't heard back.

I'll bet few people saved them with their specific pancakes, but some people I knew left them at the head of the tape... (no comment on occasional damage from rewinding tapes with sticky tape at the head...)
