Matt,

I've never heard 'em, so I'm not sure.  I do know that the Marantz tech
people at least say that the preamps are completely different from the
670--and in a good way.

Have you looked at the Oade Brothers modifications?
http://www.oade.com

If you only need a 16 bit machine and the Oade specs look good to you, it
might make sense to get a modified 670.

For the record, I'm not connected to Oade at all--I've just heard good
things about their PMD mods.
