BWAV also offers embedded text fields which means files can carry considerable data as to source, title, performer, transfer method and so forth and is therefore much more desireable for long-term archiving.
WAV files may also embed non-audio data, but the format for that is not well established and some software will not recognize that the bytes are not audio - and will try to reproduce them.
