Hi all:

Thanks for the help and recommendations, I got a lot of good pointers.  I ended up ordering an Edirol UA-1X; not fancy but it looks like it'll do what I need, and I suspect it's of good quality.  If it's not nifty enough I'll get something more expensive from the list.
