This is the understatement of the year!
IMO, the single most important step in optimizing the playback of cassettes
(or any tape, for that matter) is the adjustment of the playback head
azimuth. It ain't rocket science: you can do it without any test equipment.
You just need an appropriate screwdriver. If you don't know how, write to me
off line.
