Albumen Literature

The Library contains primary source material for the study of albumen photography with special emphasis on history, technology, science and preservation.

The library is organized by the topics listed below. Articles and monographs can appear under multiple topics. For example Louis-Désiré Blanquart-Evrard's article "The Intervention of Art in the Practice of Photography" from The British Journal of Photography 1863 can be found under the categories "19th Century Literature," Aesthetics" and "History." Sorting the articles into categories required some subjective decision-making especially since we sought to define the Categories as narrowly as possible. Therefore if an article does not appear in the category you expected, that does not mean article is not in the Library. In such a case its best to search the library using keywords.

The Library is as comprehensive as possible given copyright and other limitations. At launch (January, 2001) the Library contains nearly 150 articles and four complete monographs. Over time, we anticipate adding articles. Please let us know if you have a suggestion for an addition to the Library.
