Annual Meeting

Western Association for Art Conservation

Annual Meeting & Conference

Pacific Grove, California

Meeting Overview

September 30 - October 2, 2015

Asilomar Conference Grounds and State Park is a beautiful, ocean-side retreat at the western tip of the Monterey Peninsula. The sounds and smells of the ocean, a two-minute walk away, will refresh your senses. A cozy social hall with a cafe/bar, pool tables, and games provides a comfy place to relax. There is even a heated pool as well as bikes for rent. Close by are walking trails and dunes. A short drive takes you to Monterey, home of the world-renowned Monterey Aquarium; Point Lobos; and the famous 17-Mile Drive to the picturesque seaside town of Carmel.

The conference hall and on-site dining are all within walking distance of the rooms, so the stress of organizing transportation and meals is totally absent. Room and board (3 meals/day) are included in the price of the stay, so budgeting is straightforward as well.

Meals are taken in the Dining Hall, which serves fresh, sustainable food that can be modified to account for any dietary needs or restrictions. Mealtimes are tightly scheduled, but there is a cafe that is always op en, and take-out from the Dining Hall is possible. Wine and beer are available for sale at both the Dining Hall and the cafe but must be consumed on site. (If you happen to buy alcohol for your rooms, make sure to bring a corkscrew!)

But the main attraction, as ever, is the engaging presentations by WAAC members. The unofficial theme of the conference is California Art and History. The optional events being planned alongside the talks relate to this theme.
