WAAC, the Western Association for Art Conservation, is a nonprofit membership organization for professional conservators. WAAC was founded in 1975 to bring together conservators practicing in the western United States to exchange ideas, information and news. Although WAAC is specifically a regional organization for the western states including Alaska and Hawaii, any individual or institution may become a member regardless of location or national boundary. All payments to WAAC, however, must be drawn on a US bank in US dollars.

WAAC's Membership year is from January 1 through December 31.

Individual Members: An individual WAAC member receives the WAAC Newsletter and annual Membership Directory, is entitled to attend the annual meeting, vote in elections and stand for office. See individual membership rates for current rates.

Member Institution: An institutional member receives the WAAC Newsletter and annual Membership Directory. See institutional membership rates for current rates.

Meetings

WAAC holds an annual meeting where conservators meet and present papers. The meeting is held in the fall in a different location each year. In previous years we have held the annual meeting in at the Getty Museum, the Portland Art Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Mt. Hood, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Sequoia National Forest, Monterey, Santa Fe, Seattle, on Catalina Island, in Honolulu, Yosemite and Tucson, among others.

Publications

The WAAC Newsletter is published three times per year, in January, May and September. Over the last few years, each issue has been 28-32 pages long. The newsletter contains feature articles, regional news, a technical exchange column, a health and safety column, conference reviews, an events calendar, positions available and a publications section. WAAC's Membership Directory is distributed in March of each year.

• Loss Compensation Symposium Postprints: no longer in print.
• A Guide to Handling Anthropological Museum Collections is available in either English or Spanish (Gu�a para el manejo de colecciones antropol�gicas de museos). This humorous guide to the "do's and don'ts" of collections handling was written by Nancy Odegaard and illustrated by Grace Katterman. Soft bound, 41 pages. $8.95 each including postage, $6.60 each in quantities greater than 10.
• WAAC Newsletter back issues and a 10-Year Cumulative Index (1979-1988, Volumes 1-10) are available for purchase. Back issues through September 1992 (14/3) and the Index cost $5.00 each. Back issues January 1993 to September 2007 (15/1-29/3) are $10.00 each. Issues beginning with January 2008 (30/1) and after are $15.00 each. (A discount will be given to libraries seeking back issues to complete a "run."
