Getting to and Around San Francisco

Transportation

From San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or Oakland International Airport (OAK), the subway (BART) is under $10. Get to BART via the SFO or OAK Air Train (free). It takes about 40 minutes on the train to downtown. Civic Center Plaza is the closest stop to the Asian Art Museum; Powell Street station is near the Union Square hotels. Information (including hours, routes and fares) about using BART to get in to San Francisco from either SFO or OAK is available at

www.bart.gov/guide/airport

SFMTA offers 1 day, 3 day and 7 day visitor passes for buses, cable cars and street cars:

$22 for 3-day Muni visitor pass $28 for Muni 7-day visitor pass. Muni visitor passes can be purchased at SF Information Booths in SFO Baggage Claims areas.

Supershuttle and other shared ride vans are about $20 each way from SFO and can be reserved on-line in advance

www.supershuttle.com

Taxi stands are in designated pick up areas marked with signage and an SFO monitor. Taxi fare from SFO to the Union Square area of San Francisco is about $50.

Once downtown, Google Maps can give you municipal bus and walking routes, or 511.org. Bus fare is $2.00 (exact change needed), good for 90 minutes. Ask for a transfer from the driver.

Muni bus #5 stops outside the Asian Museum on McAllister Street, and runs all the way to the deYoung Museum at 8th Ave. and Fulton St., just outside of Golden Gate Park (on the north side). From 8th Ave., walk into the park and turn right on John F. Kennedy Dr. to reach the deYoung's tower entrance.

The historic streetcars on Market Street also cost $2, and will take you from the Asian to the Ferry Terminal Building on the waterfront.

Cable cars are $6 (may be $7 by September), cash only, and no transfers are allowed.

Paid parking is available under the Civic Center Plaza, or on the street on Fulton Plaza. Parking (and rate estimates) can be located at

Bicycle sharing is available in the Union Square, the Civic Center and the Jackson Square areas. More information is available at

Weather/Dress

Although fall is often sunny and hot, it is safer to assume it may be typical San Francisco weather: foggy and chilly (58 - 64 degrees). If you plan to spend any time on Ocean Beach or out on the Bay, be sure to bring a windbreaker and warm layers.
