This year we're pleased to announce that the WAAC Banquet will be held in association with the Western Museums Association (WMA), and will be hosted by numerous Palm Springs cultural institutions. This is the perfect opportunity to experience the history and culture of Palm Springs with museum colleagues from across the West.
The banquet will begin with hors d'oeuvres at the Palm Springs Historical Society and the Ague Caliente Cultural Museum, where you'll be able to learn about the earliest inhabitants of the land that is now Palm Springs by viewing ACCM's exhibition entitled Visions of the Indian Canyons. Step across the Village Green to Palm Springs Historical Society's McCallum Adobe Museum, the oldest building in the city, to catch a glimpse of historical exhibits ranging from the pioneers who settled here in the 1880s to the glamorous Hollywood celebrity playground days. After this attendees will form a procession for the short walk to the Palm Springs Art Museum, which will come alive with the spirit and traditions of Day of the Dead / Dia de los muertos. Enjoy the music of Mariachi Azteca de Oro, ballet folklórico dances, and a traditional Day of the Dead dinner. The museum will be decorated with altar installations, papel picado, and marigold flowers to celebrate this time of remembrance. Numerous galleries will be open to view the museum's diverse permanent collection exhibitions including Southwest Textiles and Native American Art; Western American Art; Contemporary Glass; Modern and Contemporary Collections.
