Hotels & AccommodationsWe are recommending two hotels. The Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel (800 922-7866) is offering rates of 104 dollars a night if you book online. Recently remodeled it now has a new bar called Tiki's, which is apparently highly amusing. The hotel is fairly typical of a large hotel in Waikiki however, it is right across the street from the beach and on the quieter edge of Waikiki toward Kapiolani Park. Further down by Diamondhead is the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel (800 356-8264) a very quiet and very good hotel with rates starting at about 140 dollars. Ohana Hotels (1-800-462-6262) have rates as low at 69 dollars at locations in Waikiki. The rooms are basic and they have many properties in Waikiki, some better than others. A good option for families or those traveling with friends is to rent a house. A number of agencies rent vacation homes. Homes on the beach or near it are available in Kailua and Lanikai on the Windward side of the island, a short drive of 20 minutes or so over the Pali from Honolulu. Two such agencies are Bradley Properties (808 734-2000) and Pat's Kailua Beach Properties (808 262-4128). Houses run anywhere from 70 dollars a night for a small rental studio near the beach to 1,200 a day for a seven-bedroom house on the water. |
