slicking ( slicked )

The process of SETTING OUT very thin. delicate leathers and/or those with very high requirements of smoothness of grain surface. The operation is done by means of a SLICKER and its primary purpose is to remove water and stretch the leather, thus making it perfectly flat and smooth. The slicker is applied with considerable pressure to the flesh side of the skin (called "setting on the flesh") and then lightly on the grain side (called "setting on the grain") to remove any final slight irregularities. 2.
