organic acids
The class of acids, such as acetic, formic,
lactic. oxalic, tannic, etc., which are usually
found in living organisms or which can be made
from them. These acids are characterized by being
relatively volatile and weak, consequently they
are considered to he less harmful to archival
materials. especially paper and leather, than the
more powerful inorganic acids; however, they can
be very destructive if allowed to remain in
contact with leather or paper, especially the
latter. for long periods of time.
