organic pigments
Originally, pigments obtained from vegetable or
animal materials, as distinguished from the
inorganic pigments obtained from minerals. More
recently, however, pigments have been classed as
organic if they contain the element carbon in
their composition. Most modern organic pigments
are prepared synthetically from coal-tar
derivatives, such as phthalocyanine blue, alizarin
crimson, and the lakes produced from synthetic
dyes. (233 )
