The covering material of a book that is turned
over the edges and onto the inside surfaces of the
boards, the (uneven) edges of which are covered by
the PASTEDOWN .
Although the term is generally applied to edition
and library bindings, books bound by hand are also
usually turned-in. In library binding the
customary turn-in is 5/8 inch, while in edition
binding it is seldom more than 1/2 inch, and
