close formation
The closeness of texture and FORMATION of a sheet
of paper, i.e., a sheet in which the formation is
uniform and free from a WILD (1) or porous
appearance when viewed by transmitted light. It is
frequently the sizing or loading agents that
"close" the sheet by filling the interstices
between fibers. A well-closed sheet has moreRATTLE and hardness,
and generally greater opacity. (42 )
