Hi everyone. Since Testfabrics distributes
a variety of Baumann fabrics we sent them the question: why treat dyed polyester
with vinegar? Their answer focuses on the manufacturer’s attempt to adjust
the final pH as the fabric is rinsed of excess dye and auxiliaries. During the
final rinse cotton fabrics may also be adjusted. So the bottom line for
textile conservators: check the pH of fabrics you receive to determine the pH
and then rinse with water, with acetic or citric acid or with sodium
bicarbonate (baking soda) depending on the pH you encounter! Please take note! Mary W. Ballard (Texcons co- admin.) Senior Textiles Conservator, Museum Conservation Institute, Smithsonian

(and general) you may have regarding the Creation Baumann Fabrics the
contact person is Harry Persaud. Harry has always been helpful
and beyond when I've called with orders or questions . It is worth
inquiring about the source of fabrics you may not have used before as I
understand the company does have American sources for certain fabrics -
not those generally used for conservation, though Best regards, Jane Hammond. Harry Persauld Carnegie Executive Headquarters 516-678-6700 And here is the response
