Patricia, I worked in theatre for many years before getting into the textile care industry, so oddly enough I know something about how these types of things are usually stored. Are these stage curtains with ties across the tops? If so then there should be no problem at all with hanging them for storage. That is standard practice, and as long as the very heavy weight is distributed evenly across the fabric, they can hang safely for years. Also standard is a folding method for large stage velvets, which are then stored in standard industrial rolling hampers. This method does take up some room, however. If you're interested in the folding method, contact me and I'll describe it to you. Or, contact the stagehand supervisor at the House and he/she can help you (here in the US, the stage staff that deals with "soft goods" are called carpenters). You'll need a crew, preferably of 4 or 5 people. For textiles that are not stage-related, I don't know. Someone else will have to help you there!
