Textile Conservation Group Meeting Thursday March 18, 2004

The Textile Conservation Group invites you to tour the workroom and visit with the staff of Penn & Fletcher, Inc. on Thursday, March 18 at 4:00 p.m.  Penn & Fletcher is a high end, custom embroidery company. It works with interior designers and with costume designers for stage and screen. Penn & Fletcher artisans use many different techniques.  They do hand embroidery, tambour work and beading.  Its hand guided machines date back to the end of the 19th century. It has developed ways of using multi-head computer guided machines that are unlike those of any other company in the world.  The staff works with designers, often drawing inspiration from historic designs in books or pieces in our collection, to create one of a kind works of art.

Penn  & Fletcher also works with historic house museums. One special project Penn & Fletcher is presently working on involves the reproduction of hand embroidered velvet upholstery for a sofa and side chairs for an historic house museum in Newport, R.I.

There is no charge for the tour and refreshments will be provided.

Penn & Fletcher is located at 21-07 41st Avenue 5th Floor, Long Island City, three doors from 21st Street/Queensbridge on the F train and short walk from Queens Plaza on the E, N, R, and 7 trains.  For driving instructions please contact Kim Kotary at kkotary@xxxxxxxxxxx or call 718-366-0103. For more information please check out the website at www.pennandfletcher.com.

If you will be joining us, please inform Rebecca Rushfield (wittert@xxxxxxxx).
