Recently I have been asked to consolidate a silk painted banner for
exhibition within a Wisconsin town hall. It is constructed with two
separate lengths of silk, one blue the other white. I have recommended that
it be exhibited on a passive slanted mount board with UV filtering glass or
plexi. Unfortunately the white side has intermittent splits occurring in the
weft direction along the lower third that threaten the textile structurally.
I would like to consolidate the white silk with a thermoplastic adhesive
treatment upon the reverse. However, I am concerned that in the future the
adhesive may form a bond with the blue silk due to direct contact and
fluctuating humidity. Has anyone had any experience, success or failure
with this issue?

Please e-mail me directly with any comments. I have not been able to sign
up for the Texcons list because I share my computer with a coworker.
