some answers to these questions please:
1) how is the silk currently mounted (adhesive?sewing? if adhesive, what adhesive?)
2) have you ascertained why the silk is powdering now?
3) will you be returning it to the same situation?

I am researching various approaches to unmounting and "lifting" old mounted silk that is powdering. I am inclined to think that lining for removal, similar to what is done with paintings and frescoes, would be an option, but what would be the most suitable consolidant? Any thoughts or anecdotes on the subject would be most appreciated!
