Re: [padg] CoLibri Systems

The Connecticut State Library has used the CoLibri covers for at least 5 years. We have two machines and hope to purchase a new one because an old machine has worn out.

We use them for those few books we purchase that have book jackets and to enclose rotting leather covers. We also use them to hold together damaged bindings and often thread a piece of cotton tying tape through the plastic to tie the detached covers together. The work is performed in the Cataloging Unit and by the library aides in the subject units.

Comments on their durability:
The CoLibri covers are not as snug as mylar. Occasionally a cover gets torn when someone forces a book into too small a space and the loose cover snags on something.

The plastic is not as slippery as mylar. Sometimes the covers cling to each other making it difficult to pull a book from the shelf.

Even so, we haven't used mylar here for quite a few years and have no expectation of going back to it. The CoLibri covers go on quickly and are easy to handle. One or two sizes meet all our needs.

Hi,

We're interested in purchasing CoLibri Pocket machines to use to cover
our dust jackets. I know this has been discussed previously, but I
don't see any info about durability of the product as compared to mylar
dust jacket covers. Any opinions?

Thanks.
Illene
