[PADG:1003] posters and plans
All,
I hope many of you
plan to attend ALA in New Orleans this summer. I also hope most of
you who will be there will attend the PADG meeting at 1:30 on Friday the
23rd of June. (Agenda with location details will be posted within a week
or two). Given the devastation in New Orleans, plus the fact that
hurricane season will be upon us again soon, I have a suggestion to make
regarding the poster session scheduled for the break at
PADG.
I would like to
suggest a theme for the poster session this conference. I would
like to focus on Library wide disaster planning, response and
recovery. All the posters already proposed and accepted do in
fact have a disaster theme. Additionally, the analog topic for PADG will
be a 'lessons learned from Katrina' report. So, having the remainder of
the posters focus on both 'kinds' of emergency planning in a Library could be
very valuable. We are looking for posters that outline 'traditional'
disaster plans, where 'salvage squad' responsibilities are discussed, techniques
for packing wet books are described and impacts of mold on collections are
analyzed. We would also love to have you present any information you have
on broader, more 'emergency' type plans, those that discuss how to deal with
bomb threats and suspicious packages, evacuation routes in fires and how to deal
with disruptive patrons or staff. If you want to do a poster, GREAT,
please let Jane or I know.
Finally, if you
simply do not have time to make a poster, PLEASE print out the
disaster/emergency plan for your Library/organization, place it in a notebook or
three ring binder and bring it along. We will have one table set aside for
plans to be available for others to review. You will not need to
stand by your plan but if you could bring some business cards and leave them
with your plan, so that if someone likes your plan they have your contact
information, that would be great.
Thanks and see you
in about 5 weeks,
