PRESERVATION COORDINATOR

The Museum of Modern Art seeks candidates for the position of Preservation
Coordinator to administer the preservation program for the Museum's research
collections.  This position is grant-funded for one year, renewable as
funding permits. MoMA's library, museum archives, and curatorial study
collections have developed into one of the world's finest research
institutions in the field of  modern and contemporary art by supporting the
Museum's collection.  

The incumbent to this position will coordinate the collections preservation
program by working with staff and commercial vendors through commercial
binding, reformatting, selection of protective enclosures, and conservation.
The Preservation Coordinator will also oversee disaster preparedness
planning, maintain environmental monitoring, prepare and monitor budgets,
and work closely with staff to write grants.  In addition, the Preservation
Coordinator will educate the staff and readers on conservation/preservation
matters and coordinate preservation efforts with other Museum departments.  

The Preservation Coordinator will play a key role in coordinating the move
of those collections in the spring of 2002 since the Museum will be
relocating its collections (including the library and museum archives) to an
offsite facility in Queens for the duration of a major expansion project.   

Successful candidates should have an MLS from an ALA-accredited library
school with a concentration in preservation administration.  Excellent
organizational, interpersonal and communication skills combined with
initiative and creativity are also important.  Experience in
preservation/conservation management in academic and research libraries and
archives is preferred.
