[PADG:912] Re: Microfilm Storage

As part of an organization that has invested lots of infrastructure in the
development of a separate, environmentally controlled microfilm storage
vault that still has plenty of capacity and is located in a geologically
stable area, I wonder why the community needs additional repositories. The
requirement that masters are stored in a different location from print
masters addresses the disaster planning concerns.  And although Preservation
Resources and NUS are both in PA, we are in opposite sides of a very big
state.

It sounds as if your interests are leaning toward disaster mitigation.
There must be museum and other library administrators interested in this
and have a group email address.  Possibly that group could be contacted.  I
agree, it would be wonderful to have other repositories available in the US
besides two we know about in Pennsylvania.  I'm wondering what the
California libraries do for offsite storage of master films--surely they've
found something elsewhere because of the earthquake prone nature of their
region.
