Re: pressure-sensitive labels within the textblock

Here at Swarthmore we would never consider placing anything on
the title page. We pencil in the call number tp verso. We use
foil back labels on the spine and place barcode and horizontal
foil back label on the end paper. As the person responsible for
preservation, I have to consider the textblock "sacred".

Another issue that hasn't been addressed is how to get the
foil back label to actually stick to the cover of the book.
A fairly large percentage of books will not allow the label
to adhere. We have to cover each spine label with a spine
label protector (which also doesn't stick to many covers)

Foil back labels are an easy solution, but I'm not convinced
it's the most effective one for long term use.
