That cornet may be one of the instruments made by E.G. Wright who
was one of the most important of the early 19th century American
makers of brass instruments. Most of his instruments were made
between 1839 and 1871. He lived in Massachusetts and had shops in
Lowell and Boston. His company was eventually merged with the
Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory. Wright's keyed bugles are
considered to be the best instruments of their kind in the world.
His valved instruments are less valuable although the one you
describe would be of great interest. Examples of his work are
housed in both the Smithsonian and the Henry Ford collections.
