Consider Marvel Seal 360 for this job.  Marvel Seal is literally a space
age product.  It is a metal (aluminum) foil which has Nylon on one side
for toughness & a layer of polyethylene on the other making it heat set.  
Marvel Seal can be "ironed on" easily using a tacking iron.  It is
regularly recommended by conservators as a barrier to acids etc. that
come out of case material etc.  Its only drawback is that it is silver.
Marvel Seal is available from archival supply houses like Carr McLean &
University Products.
